Before you go. The land budget assumes a bus from Kathmandu, not a flight. Sarangkot taxis leave in the dark — share one from the hostel desk. Walk down if the weather is clear. Keep passport copies in the locker and the original on you.

Overview

For a solo traveller who wants Nepal without committing to a multi-day teahouse circuit. Pokhara is the base. Sarangkot is the view. The Peace Pagoda or Australian Camp is the walk. You sleep in the same hostel every night.

Day by day

  1. Day 1 — Lakeside, and nothing else booked

Bus in from Kathmandu. Dorm in Lakeside, locker, shower, a walk along the lake only as far as the first quiet ghat. Sleep. Altitude here is gentle. Your job is to arrive.

  2. Day 2 — Sarangkot before the cafes open

Shared taxi up in the dark. Watch the range, eat after the light, and walk down toward the lake if your knees are willing. If cloud is solid, do not wait it out all morning. Come back another day.

  3. Day 3 — Peace Pagoda, or the Australian Camp path

Pick one. The pagoda is a boat plus a stair and back by lunch. Australian Camp is a longer green walk and still a day, not an expedition. Tell the hostel which one, and be back for dinner.

  4. Day 4 — A day with no trail

Laundry, a book, the lake. This is the day that keeps a solo week from feeling like a checklist. If you are restless, rent a bicycle on the flat, not a cliff road.

  5. Day 5 — Bus toward Kathmandu

Morning hostel checkout and the tourist bus. Do not add a sunrise and a departure on the same day.

Where to sleep, eat, and how to get there

Stay

One Lakeside dorm

Four nights. Ask about a locker that fits a backpack, and a desk that will book the shared Sarangkot taxi. You do not need a new bed each night.

Move

Tourist bus, shared taxi

Kathmandu to Pokhara by tourist bus is the budget line. In town, walk or share. The sunrise taxi is the one ride worth splitting.

Do

Day walks only

Sarangkot, the pagoda, or Australian Camp. No Annapurna Circuit on this plan. If you want a teahouse trek, that is a different trip and a different pack.

Eat

Dal bhat, then stop ordering

One good dal bhat beats three cafe lunches. The hostel kitchen or a Lakeside thali is enough. Carry water on the hill.
